Ed Takes Podium On Debut (03/02)

Formula
K Europe's faith in the abilities of Super One champion Ed Brand was rewarded as
he delivered a much-deserved 3rd place at Whilton Mill.
Defending Super One and Kartmasters
champion Ed Brand demonstrated the potential of the Formula K chassis with a
stirring drive from tenth on the grid to an eventual podium last Sunday (29
January).
It was Brand's first
competitive outing on the Italian-made kart and since renewing his partnership
with engine tuners, HRS.
Race day started brightly with an encouraging 2nd place in
the opening heat. Ed's fortunes took a temporary nosedive in the following race,
but a superb drive in the third heat saw him lift his team's spirits as he
carved his way from 26th to 8th to take a fifth row start for the A final.
Passing
four karts in the opening lap, Ed steadily edged his way up the order and by
mid-distance was 3rd. Despite the leading pair being comfortably ahead, Brand
remorselessly hunted them down - setting the fastest lap of the race on the
penultimate tour. On this occasion, he had to settle for 3rd albeit that a
higher finish looked almost certain had there been more time.
"This is a great result for me, the
team (Protrain), HRS and of course, the Formula K chassis. Although I couldn't
take the win on this occasion, I feel that we've done enough to prove that it's
not a case of 'if' but 'when'. The Formula K is a pleasure to drive, is nicely
balanced and allows the engine to deliver its power smoothly."
He added, "We've had a positive start
to the year and I have great expectations for the forthcoming season."
Keep up to speed
with Ed and his racing career by visiting

Tal-Ko Investigate Concerns (03/02)
Tal-Ko
Racing, controllers of the Formula TKM classes and importer of the Maxxis tyres
used in those classes, have released a brief statement over comments from some
drivers on the latest batch of tyres being issued. It says:
"We are aware of concerns expressed
from some drivers over the performance of the latest batch of Maxxis green label
slick tyres used in Formula TKM recently at Whilton Mill and Shenington.
"However the data we have obtained
from drivers is contradictory and sometimes circuit and temperature can have odd
effects at this time of year. We need to get to the bottom of this so we can
identify what the problem is, if any.
"We are working with Maxxis and their world-wide agents to
try to identify any reason for a change in performance and will report back on
this as soon as possible."
Further updates will be issued at
www.tal-ko.com.

Praga Now In The UK (02/02)

The
range of Praga products are now in stock and available from the new UK
distributors - Praga UK. Part of the Intrepid family, the Praga has been through
extensive testing here in the UK and abroad and the initial response leaves us
at Praga UK with nothing but confidence for the 2012 campaign.
The Praga chassis has been developed
around the already successful Intrepid product, the main differences being a
greater castor angle, 32mm rear cross rail and a re-configured waist which
altogether has proven to be a great combination of balance, grip, enhanced
braking and chassis release. All karts come with full mag rims,
a specifically designed seat, additional castor kits, optional Euro plastic or
UK rear bumper, durable chain guard (wide enough for sprocket protectors) and an
angled boss as standard, therefore there are no hidden extras!
Evolution
Racing are the 2012 works Praga team, they will be competing at all major
championships in both the UK and Europe. Team drives are still available on an
'Arrive and Drive' basis or awning space and race management for Praga customers
looking for support and advice! Team manager Ashley Whitcroft is delighted to be
involved with the Praga product saying "It was a brave decision to even think of
moving away from a product that has been so successful, but after extensive
testing with a variety of different drivers in the Rotax formulas it was clear
to me that there was an edge which will define us from our competitors, also a
well manufactured kart and parts with an appealing price tag finalised are
decision to join forces with Praga UK".

Formula K And Protrain (02/02)
![]()
The
January meeting at Whiton Mill provided an excellent opportunity for the new
Protrain Formula K karts to have their maiden run before moving on to compete in
the European South Winter Cup at Campillos Spain, and what a great start it was
too.
In the
first heat of Rotax Max, Ed Brand immediately set the pace in the Formula K with
a lap time 4/10ths faster than anyone else with only the three Protrain drivers
and one other driver achieving a sub 46 second laptime. Charlie Eastwood
followed this up with the fastest lap in the second heat. The final proved just
as successful with Ed beating the winners fastest lap by 3/10ths becoming the
only driver to achieve a sub 45 second laptime on the day, he drove an excellent
race to move up from 11th on the grid to third. Protrain driver Jack Aitken also
drove a masterful race and despite an earlier kart failure determining his 17th
place on the grid he finished a brilliant second.
In Junior Rotax, Max Aitken's earlier consistently good
lap times and hard work were wasted by an incident on track and Kaan Onder's
efforts to improve his marginal 0.04s off the fastest lap time in his new
Formula K kart was ruined when tangle with a spinning kart in the third heat
resulted in his brand new kart being written off.
Our cadet Joe Turney continued to impress with some
exciting driving taking a very well deserved 9th place against a large and
talented field. Omar Ismail was not so fortunate in Mini Max and had a difficult
weekend dogged with misfortune, Callum James was unable to repeat his success at
Shenington after being forced to retire due to ill health.
The Formula K was also run at Whilton
Mill by Tim Penny, James Beauchamp and Jago McKenzie all of whom had very good
Formula K debuts and provided excellent feedback for the team.
Gary Chapman said "It was a great
weekend, although some of these guys only got their new karts this week they are
already producing fastest laptimes and that will only get better. I knew they
were great karts and am really excited to see that being proven on the track."
Formula K karts have an amazing
pedigree and are destined for great success, if you are interested in becoming
an agent for Formula K contact Gary Chapman at Protrain, and be a part of the
success story.
Protrain moves on to Europe and PF
International with great news for a couple of Super One drivers. Rarely
available, Protrain have space for one Junior Rotax and one Mini Max driver to
join them at Super One. Any interested drivers should contact Gary directly on
07802 966064 or by email at
protrain@karttraining.co.uk
as soon as possible.

Announcing
the launch of the new cadet team Next-Gen Motorsport - developing the next
generation of British champions. The team aims to fast-track drivers to the
front of the grid, using years of cadet racing knowledge gathered from working
within the top cadet teams and bespoke driver coaching from myself - Team
manager David Bellchambers.
With over 15 years experience in karting including 8 years
racing all over the world I became twice British GP champion, 4th at the World
Championship as well as a Super1 and FKS race winner. My passion for racing then
led me into working with other drivers which i've been doing for the last 7
years. In that time I've worked in all the top cadet teams with some of the top
drivers in the country, throughout these experiences I have learnt that to
become the best you need the right combination of speed, confidence, passion,
tactics and techniques. Next-Gen will focus on these areas to create a complete
driver, using various different methods you'll find speed, confidence and most
importantly results. My will to win is second to none!
Next-gen will provide a professional,
flexible, friendly set-up, included will be full data analysis provided by a
specially employed data technician, specialised track walks, bespoke driver
coaching, and kart set-up. Also available will be kart prep, transportation
and engine management as well as fitness and nutrition advice. With the current

potential due to costs, Next-Gen offer affordable prices up to 50% cheaper than
the established teams, with no hidden added extras! We will be doing Formula
Kart Stars, Super One Series (Comer and Honda) along with Kartmasters, 0 plate,
S1 winter series and various club meetings. Full 2012 race calendar available on

the 2012 season. Barrie will further add to the team's already talented line up
of drivers and he hopes to enjoy a successful year with the official Rotax
Alonso team. The number 11 seed from last year's Super 1 Series and the TVKC
Continental Cup winner says "I'm really looking forward to the season and can't
wait to get started with the DHR team".
Barrie joins fellow Senior Rotax team
mate 2011 Vice Super 1 Champion Sean Babington and DHR team manager Dan believes
the driver partnership will work well from the off, "I'm delighted Barrie has
chosen DHR, I genuinely believe he can enjoy a successful year both in Super 1
and Euro Max starting immediately."

RL Signals Its Intent (01/02)

As
preparations for the new Super One and FKS seasons gather pace, RL Racing
Department enjoyed a string of positive results at Trent Valley Kart Club's
well-supported second round of its Winter Series (29 January).
In challenging conditions that tested
even the hardiest of souls, each of the team's drivers gave boss Steve Armstrong
much to be pleased about. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly Josh White
and Lando Norris' fine wins in Mini and Junior Max.
"Josh has matured a lot during his
break over the winter. After just two days of testing, he brushed off the
cobwebs and signalled his intent for 2012 with some hard - but fair - and very
decisive overtaking. His victory was well-deserved, especially when you consider
this was only his fifth race in the class."
His team-mate Oliver Norris claimed a
creditable fifth, earning Armstrong's praise: "Oliver continues to improve his
racecraft and this, added to his immense speed over a lap, will make him a
strong contender."
Fellow Junior Max front-runner Sam Marsh endured tough
luck in the heats but stormed from 22nd on the grid to 8th. "There wasn't a
single lap where he wasn't overtaking someone. Sam demonstrated great character
with his performance in the final."
Lando
Norris' earlier triumph in Mini Max had clearly laid down a marker for the older
drivers. With finesse and maturity beyond his years Lando delivered a text-book
drive to claim RL's first victory of the new year. "He preserved his tyres well
and, once in the lead, controlled the race from the front to comfortably beat
three seeded drivers."
Starting from the tenth row, William Taylforth fought his
way to an eventual 8th. Steve reveals that it was a plucky performance from the
youngster. "William's progress up the order could have been even higher.
Unfortunately he was hampered somewhat by a lack of pre-race testing due to a
shoulder injury, so he did incredibly well all things considered."
New to the RL
Racing Department awning, Flashman Finneran demonstrated that he has made
an enormous leap forward in his personal development and is adjusting well to
the new, 'big team' environment.
Completing a clean sweep of silverware in all three
classes, RL's solo Senior Max representative at PFi overcame a series of
technical and weather-based challenges in his heats to scrap his way to an
eventual 3rd. "In his maiden race with us, Lewis Plato could barely have dreamt
up a more challenging debut," Steve observed with a wry smile. "He did
incredibly well to take a podium from a p12 start. The odds were pretty much
stacked against him but he pulled through. Quality always does."
RL Racing
Department has just two drives available in the 2012 line-up. For more
information, please contact Steve Armstrong via

Mcqueen
Steals The Show
(31/01)
Novice
cadet driver stormed to victory in his second ever race at Whilton Mill on
Sunday 29th January. This young driver is proving to be one to watch for the
future.
Owen Marlow put in a fantastic performance through the heats securing him pole
position for the final. However, Owen's hopes were dashed when he experienced
engine failure on the warm up lap.
Jake Severs showed great promise starting his first season
in cadets he came 11th out of 34 drivers his best result in a race.
Tom Douglas had one of those weekends
where nothing went his way. He had great pace but unfortunately due to two
accidents the weekend wasn't as a successful as he hoped.
Leo Panayiotou really upped his game
and made some great progress in the heats he was unlucky to DNF the final and is
turning to be a promising driver.

Lost Equipment (31/01)
Corby Gormley, Senior Max driver no 64 with Wavertree Motorsport, reports that a holdall and helmet bag were lost at PFi at the weekend. He says...
"A black Umbro holdall with boots, gloves and some
clothes inside and black Motrax helmet bag with a fluorescent painted helmet and
the 'BadBoy' logo on the back inside with my name on it (C.Gormley) was lost at
PFi on the 29th of January 2012 after the racing had finished, around row D-F".
"I've contacted JM racing and TVKC and
they say they've seen nothing as yet, which makes me presume somebody has
mistaken it as one of theirs as it was dark and taken it home by accident.
Please could you check what you packed away that evening as it's very important
that it's found and returned asap."
"If you have seen or heard anything,
or even taken it home and are worried with what my response will be, please
don't hesitate to call me as I'll be grateful that it's safe and secure as I
will also be grateful for any information of it's whereabouts."

British Grand Prix Trip (30/01)

When
Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button and 22 other drivers line up on the grid at
Silverstone on July 8th for the start of the 2012 Formula 1 Santander British
Grand Prix it will mark the highpoint of the Motorsport calendar in the UK this
year.
For
12 Formula Kart Stars drivers the unearthly pitch and wail of a modern day
Formula One engine will be closer than ever as they sit in the grandstand to
watch the race unfold courtesy of Formula One Management and Bernie Ecclestone.
Cadet drivers Luke Barker, Jack
Leese, Enaam Ahmed, Ross Martin and Jack Brookes, Mini Max drivers Josh White,
Aaron Thompson and Josh Cornwell and Junior Rotax contenders Steven Handford,
Luke Hughes, Nick Arthur and Shaun Arnold all received the Bernie Ecclestone
Driver of the Day award during the 2011 season and their prize of a weekend trip
to Silverstone including VIP Formula One paddock passes will be an experience
none of them will forget in a hurry.
Drivers who attended the 2011 British Grand Prix, courtesy
of winning the Driver of the Day award during the 2010 FKS season, experienced
the kind of up close and personal access to the pinnacle of world Motorsport
that very few get to see. From mingling with the stars of the sport in the
Formula One paddock to touring teams' motor homes, hospitality areas and pit
garages the lucky prize winners will experience a side of Formula One usually
unseen by the general public or much of the world media.
"I'm
extremely grateful to Mr Ecclestone and Formula One Management Ltd for
continuing to support this award," said Formula Kart Stars Championship Director
Carolynn Hoy. "Over the past two years he has taken our drivers to Monza and
Silverstone and I know that this year's prize winners will truly have the
experience of a lifetime.
"The drivers who travelled with us to Silverstone last
year couldn't believe the level of access they were granted by the teams and how
welcome the entire Formula One family made them feel," continued Hoy. "All 12 of
the 2011 prize winners earned this opportunity through hard work, dedication and
raising their performance level during the course of one of our championship
rounds and I'm glad that Formula Kart Stars can reward them like this."

Carolynn Hoy Awarded (30/01)
Formula
Kart Stars Championship Director Carolynn Hoy has been awarded the 2012 Lord
Wakefield Challenge Trophy by the British Women's Racing Drivers Club for her
lifelong services to motorsport.
Hoy was presented with the internationally recognised
award by MSA Chief Executive Colin Hilton last week at the MSA Night of
Champions at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall, London.
The Lord Wakefield Challenge Trophy
is acknowledged the British Women's Racing Drivers Clubs' premier award and has
been awarded by the BWRDC since the Clubs' creation in 1962 by Mary Wheeler MBE.
Previous winners include ex Formula Kart Stars drivers Sarah Moore and Alice
Powell as well as former Formula One driver Divina Galica, current DTM driver
Susie Stoddart, rally drivers Louise Aitken-Walker and Michelle Mouton and Dakar
Rally winner Jutta Kleinschmidt.
A leading contender in the burgeoning Superkart scene of
the late 1970's and early 1980's culminating in second place in the British
Championship and sixth place in the World Karting Championship during the early
1980's when she was a factory driver alongside the late Martin Hines in the
world renowned Hermatite Zip team.
Hoy retired from karting in 1987 but went on to forge a
successful saloon car career, where she was a factory driver for British based
sportscar marque Panther and latterly the FIA European Truck Racing Championship
until her retirement from racing due to injury in 1995.
Two years later Hoy joined Formula
Kart Stars, then known as the McLaren Mercedes Champions of the Future, and took
over the championship from series founder Hines in 2000. In 2009 Formula Kart
Stars became the only karting championship in the world to receive official
support from Bernie Ecclestone's Formula One Management company and Lewis
Hamilton, a champion in the series inaugural season in 1996.
"I'm absolutely delighted and
honoured to receive this award," said Hoy, who also competed and finished the Le
Mans 24 Hour Prokart race despite driving the entire race on her own. "It's
lovely to be awarded the Lord Wakefield trophy as an individual and very
humbling. Formula Kart Stars is a team effort and everything we do we do as a
team.
"I
have been extremely fortunate to be involved in motorsport and specifically
karting for more years than I care to remember and Formula Kart Stars exists
solely to help young drivers make a career out of racing. Although my name is
associated most closely with the Championship there is a dedicated team who work
tirelessly on the Championship as well."
Hoy was not the only Formula Kart Stars personality to be
honoured at the Night of Champions with MSA British Cadet Champion Daniel
Ticktum also receiving his official MSA trophy from British Touring Car
Championship boss Alan Gow.

Drivers Get 'In The Zone' (26/01)

In
a sport where the line between success and failure can be defined in thousandths
of a second, any advantage a driver can muster no matter how small can be
critical. In 2012 twelve lucky Formula Kart Stars drivers will get a first hand
insight into how they can unlock those vital tenths and hundredths thanks to
iZone Driver Performance's new 'In the Zone' prize.
Following a successful 2011 season in which the four
Formula Kart Stars class champions all earned themselves a day with iZone, the
Formula One Management backed Championship will nominate one driver in each of
the twelve 2012 rounds to attend a full day of training at iZone's
state-of-the-art Silverstone facility.
During the day the lucky prize winners will benefit from
iZone's expertise on improving all areas of their driving, expertise that helped
Andy Priaulx to three World Touring Car titles.
"The prize winners will receive structured development
training with iZone," said iZone's Neil Riddiford. "We identify potential areas
of improvement with each driver and then use the technology that is available to
raise their awareness of their own strengths and weaknesses and improve their
progression.
"We look at scientific methods to help them be the best
that they can be through a series of accumulated marginal gains," concluded
Riddiford, who also confirmed that the prize would also entail time in iZone's
simulator.
Formula Kart Stars Championship director Carolynn Hoy is enthusiastic about the
continuing partnership between FKS and iZone.
"It's
incredibly important for every driver to be on top of their game in every race
and the team at iZone Driver Performance have been really successful at helping
young drivers develop, including our current MSA British Champion Daniel
Ticktum."
Hoy also sees the connection between the type of learning available to FKS
drivers through the 'In the Zone' prize and Boston College's Education Bus,
which will travel with the Championship throughout the year.
"Formula Kart Stars is committed to
giving our driver all the tools they will need in adult life off the track with
our education bus and iZone has the same commitment to giving drivers all the
psychological tools they need on the track," continued Hoy. "It's also important
to remember that a driver who finishes 15th may have been driving just as close
to the limit as a driver who wins a race. That is what being 'In the Zone' is
all about, maximising your own peak performance."
Prize winners will be split into three groups and prize
dates will be organised throughout the year depending on school holidays.

"We are fast approaching the official closing date for

easier for everyone with race entry, tyres and fuel all sorted with one payment

Shenington Success (24/01)
Three
Protrain drivers delivered a brilliant start to the 2012 season with two wins
and a second place at an action packed Shenington last weekend.
Jack Hawksworth who is just about to
leave the UK to race in single seaters in America joined the team for the
weekend competing in KZ2. Despite a complaint about his, and two other drivers,
exit from Parc Ferme apparently being slightly premature forcing his exclusion
from one of his heats, he drove an immaculate exhibition style race taking the
win in great style. Jack is a highly valued team mate, we wish him every success
in America and look forward to working with him again.
Jack Aitken in Senior Rotax drove a
very impressive race and secured his first race win of the season in a very
tight race where he led the pack from start to finish.
Alex
Stott, a newcomer to Protrain and also new to Mini Max secured an incredible
second place in his first ever Mini Max race since moving up from a successful
time as a cadet.
Other team drivers Kaan Onder, Callum James, Omar Ismail
and Joe Turney also set impressive lap times and look set for success this year.
Gary Chapman, Team Principle said
"These are exciting times for Protrain, we have some immense talent in our team
and our new drivers will be out in their new Formula K karts next weekend at
Whilton Mill. I'm sure these wins will be the first of many for us in 2012".
Protrain's growing line up for 2012
is indeed very impressive with a number of drivers including Charlie Eastwood
and Ed Brand recently confirming their places within the team. This continued
popularity and expansion means that Protrain are now seeking applications from
engineers/mechanics looking to work within their championship winning team both
at club level and nationally.
If you think you have what it takes
to work with the best at the highest level please send your CV to Gary Chapman
at

FKS Drivers' Mini Adventure (23/01)
D
rivers
in the new Formula Kart Stars Senior Rotax class will be embarking on a MINI
Adventure in 2012 thanks to a new scholarship with leading MINI Challenge team
Lohen.
One
Senior Max driver in each of the 12 rounds that make up the 2012 Formula One
Management backed Championship will be selected to participate in an exclusive
end-of-season shootout with Lohen. After being put through their paces by a
judging panel that includes former multiple Formula Kart Stars champion and
current British Touring Car driver Frank Wrathall, one lucky FKS driver will be
awarded the 2012 MINI Adventure Scholarship award.
The winning driver will either get a free entry fee into
the 2013 MINI Challenge with Lohen or get a race drive with Lohen in the 2013
Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone.
"We are delighted to be working with Formula Kart Stars on
the "MINI Adventure" scholarship for Senior Rotax drivers," says Lohen Director
Andrey Magiy, whose team has built up an impressive resume with the new
generation MINI over the past eight years. "It is a great opportunity to start
developing their career in Saloon car racing.
"MINI
Challenge is a perfect place to develop racing skills for shorter races, with
many drives moving into the TOCA paddock. Britcar is ideal for drivers wishing
to pursue a career in endurance racing and ultimately wishing to end up in GT or
Le Mans series. Lohen can provide a perfect stepping platform for Karting to car
racing and we are looking forward to attending some of the FKS 2012 rounds and
meeting the candidates in person."
Wrathall, who earned his first steps into the world of car
racing through the Will Hoy Scholarship award, is perfectly placed to judge a
shootout like this.
"The winning driver will need to show that they have the
potential to step up from karts to cars," said Wrathall. "Moving from a kart to
a car is a big deal and there is a lot to learn. You can't solely judge things
on raw speed but how a driver can adapt quickly and build a successful
foundation as a racing driver. The only reason I am where I am today is because
of the Will Hoy scholarship, it set me on the path that I'm on now."
Formula
Kart Stars Championship director Carolynn Hoy, herself an experienced former
saloon and sportscar driver, feels the Lohen MINI Adventure scholarship gives
the Senior Rotax class the perfect boost ahead of its debut season as part of
the only Karting championship in the world to be supported by Bernie Ecclestone
and Lewis Hamilton.
"As someone who has participated in several 24 hour races
both in karts and cars there is nothing quite like the feeling you get of racing
through the night as part of a team," said Hoy, who contested the Willhire 24
Hours at Snetterton and the Le Mans 24 Hour kart race during her driving career.
"Likewise the MINI Challenge is a well established and supported championship
that several of our former karters have already tried with great success.
"Lohen has shown a tremendous desire
to work with Formula Kart Stars and I know that enthusiasm will continue all
year. It is very important for the Championship to offer our new Senior drivers
the same kind of opportunities within Motorsport that we offer our Junior
competitors and this is the perfect way to start."

Hillspeed Debuts Grand Prize (23/01)

Formula
Kart Stars have joined forces with one of the most successful junior formulae
teams in Britain, Hillspeed, to create a new scholarship award in 2012.
The Formula One Management backed
Championship, the only karting championship in the world to enjoy continued
support from Bernie Ecclestone and Lewis Hamilton, will nominate one eligible
driver in each of the 12 rounds that comprise the 2012 Formula Kart Stars
Championship to attend an exclusive FKS shootout with Hillspeed at the end of
the season.
The winner of the shootout will receive his or her entry
fee for the 2013 Ginetta Junior Championship or the 2013 Protyre Formula Renault
BARC Championship courtesy of Hillspeed, who have a glowing record of success in
both championships.
Having guided former FKS Mini Max Champion Tom Ingram to
the 2010 Junior Ginetta title and then defended their crown with Seb Morris in
2011, Hillspeed have recently announced the signing of former Formula Kart Stars
frontrunner Nathan Harrison for the 2012 Junior Ginetta season.
In the Protyre Formula Renault BARC
Championship Hillspeed's record is equally as successful, helping another
Formula Kart Stars driver, Alice Powell to the 2010 championship and sustaining
that performance in 2011 with newly crowned Winter Series Champion Victor
Jimenez.
"Hillspeed is very excited about the partnership with FKS and the opportunity to
work with drivers seeking a long term future in Motorsport," confirmed team
principle Richard Ollerenshaw at the recent Autosport International Show in
Birmingham's NEC Arena. "It is clearly apparent that FKS is a vital proving
ground and stepping stone for aspiring karters. We want to become involved and
offer them the chance to sample entry-level car racing within the professional
environment that Hillspeed provides.
"We
have worked with a number of young drivers with karting backgrounds and have
been exceptionally successful in their development and career progression. Our
Ginetta Junior programme has provided our drivers the opportunity to graduate
from karting to cars while keeping a high profile with all of the races
supporting the British Touring Car Championship."
Formula Kart Stars Championship director Carolynn Hoy
confirmed that Hillspeed's proven track record in helping develop the careers of
young drivers fresh out of karting made the Derbyshire based team a natural
choice as a championship partner.
"Hillspeed are in a unique position in that they can offer
our drivers two different routes into the world of car racing through either the
single seater or closed cockpit environment," stated Hoy. "Their work with
drivers like Tom [Ingram] and Alice [Powell] proves that they believe in giving
young drivers their first big opportunity and that is one of the core aims of
Formula Kart Stars as well. I know that whoever is eventually selected for the
prize will be in the best environment possible with Hillspeed."
Due to the age restrictions of the
Ginetta Junior Championship, Formula Kart Stars drivers must be no older than 16
on April 1st 2013 to be eligible for the prize.

FKS 2012 Season Launch (19/01)

The
four-day Autosport International Show at the National Exhibition Centre in
Birmingham traditionally signals the start of the motorsport season and for the
Formula Kart Stars Championship it signals both the end AND the beginning as the
2011 Champions are crowned in the official championship presentation and the
2012 season is launched amidst a flurry of star names and fantastic new prize
announcements.
Heading into its 17th year of competition the Formula One
Management backed championship, the same championship that helped give current
Formula One drivers Lewis Hamilton and Paul Di Resta their first big break in
the world of motorsport, once again hosted the official Karting stage at
Autosport International. As in previous years FKS enjoyed the company of a
plethora of motorsport superstars during the show and highlighted the
achievements of many of its current roster of drivers.
The focal point of the four day
motorsport bonanza was the awards ceremony, which went off with the traditional
Formula Kart Stars flurry of confetti cannons but with BBC Formula One duo David
Coulthard and Jake Humphrey and new BBC Formula One commentator Ben Edwards
highlighting a list of stage guests that also included Le Mans legends Allan
McNish and Tom Kristensen, World Touring Car Championship runner-up Rob Huff and
sportscar ace David Brabham, there was no shortage of action all the way from
Thursday morning to Sunday evening, when the show finally closed.
In front of a packed audience of
friends, family and casual spectators, MSA British Cadet Champion Daniel
Ticktum, Formula Kart Stars Mini Max Champion Josh White, Junior Max Champion
James Singleton and KF3 Champion Callum Ilott all received their unique Formula
Kart Stars steering wheel trophies while Ticktum also received the official MSA
British Cadet Championship trophy from the MSA's John Symes.
The four champions had already been
to the prestigious Autosport Awards Ceremony in December at the Grosvenor House
Hotel in London to get their hands of the unique FKS trophies but the official
presentation was the first chance they had to get their hands (or wrists) around
their prize TAG Heuer watches.
In
addition to the four champions, Ticktum's Fusion Motorsport team manager Neil
Doran also received one of the spectacular timepieces as did second and third
place drivers in Cadet, Mini Max and Junior Max. In total TAG Heuer handed out
no less than eleven watches with Jamie Caroline, Ryan Anderton, Jack Mitchell,
Connor Mills, Sam Marsh and Ryan Norris also earning the right to take home a
TAG watch.
All four champions will receive a full day of training at iZone Driver
Performance while Singleton and White were also presented with a free Rotax
engine from JAG. Singleton also earned an entry into the Rotax World Finals last
November, an event in which he did the championship proud by finishing a superb
third overall.
"It is fantastic to have the likes of Jake Humphrey, David
Coulthard, Allan McNish and Tom Kristensen on our stage but the show is all
about the karters," said FKS Championship director Carolynn Hoy. "This is their
chance to shine in front of the biggest motorsport audience of the year outside
of the British Grand Prix and I am very proud of all those drivers who were on
stage for either an interview or just to collect their prizes."
The Powerboat P1 Superstock
Championship confirmed their 2011 prize of a test day in one of their awe
inspiring Powerboats for six lucky Junior Rotax drivers while fellow Junior Max
competitor Macaulay Austin was officially presented with the inaugural Dannie
Pennell trophy.
Looking ahead to 2012, FKS continued to work on creating
more unique opportunities for its drivers as the eagerly anticipated Bernie
Ecclestone Driver of the Day prize was confirmed along with new scholarship
prizes courtesy of Lohen Ltd, iZone Driver Performance and Hillspeed.

Forza Racing Launched (13/01)
Under
the management of Jamie Croxford and Paul Munn, a new team has recently been
formed called Forza Racing. Previously responsible for the management and
general running of Prima Racing, both Jamie and Paul have yielded numerous
championship and race wins throughout the season, both on national and European
turf. Now the time has come to branch away and reap the rewards of their hard
work.
The
team will focus on utilising only the very best equipment whilst providing
drivers with a fantastic team environment encompassing; driver management and
coaching, data analysis and feedback whilst also offering PR and media packages.
Jamie and Paul are both highly
regarded within the sport. Jamie's background is that of being a professional
Factory Driver within the KF categories, whilst Paul has established himself as
a front-runner through the ranks all the way to Formula 3. Their wealth of
experience, complimented by their winning ethos and second-to-none driver
management and coaching skills equates to nothing less than a fantastic team
environment.
The team will be split into two racing divisions; Paul
Munn will be heading the Cadet department, catering for Honda, WTP and Comer in
all national championships. Meanwhile, Jamie will be responsible for managing
the Super Cadet and KF division, both at home and abroad. The principle behind
this is to provide a platform for drivers to graduate from cadet through to
super cadet and then moving on to KF. Forza are now the only team within the UK
paddock to accommodate for a fluid transition up the karting ladder.
Jamie and Paul both manifest an
invigorating and exciting energy for the sport and have thus galvanised the
opportunity to formulate a team like no other. The ethos at Forza Racing is to
provide a higher level of professionalism and to hone in on both on/off track
activities to develop and equip drivers for a hugely successful career within
motorsport.

Plato Signs For RL (11/01)

RL
Racing Department has confirmed Lewis Plato is joining its driver line-up for
the 2012 campaign.
Plato's arrival signals the Suffolk team's full return to
competing in the senior Rotax Max class after Jake Ball's retirement from racing
early into the 2011 season.
The 18-year old Essex driver will spearhead RL Racing
Department's Super One assault. He will be joined by another, as yet unnamed,
driver.
"I'm
obviously delighted to be joining a team with such a great pedigree," said Plato
during a break in winter testing in Lanzarote. "I'm gelling well with everybody
and the equipment is fantastic. I'm really looking forward to showing what I'm
capable of next year."
Team boss Steve Armstrong believes his new signing is
capable of making a significant contribution to his squad's history of success:
"I'm very pleased to welcome Lewis into the RL stable. We've been very
successful in the Senior Max class over the past three to four years with
back-to-back Super One titles for Chris Lock and Mike Simpson, who won the 2008
Euro Max Championship and were vice-British Champions and International Open
winners in 2010."
He added: "Lewis's presence also complements our vastly
strengthened Mini and Junior Max line-ups. All members of the team have
undertaken a thorough winter testing programme in the Canary Islands. Albeit
that it was at the last minute, we were able to put a package together and get
him out there in December. He's fitted in very well and I'm impressed with his
pace and focus. I think we'll all be in great shape come the opening race of the
season."

CIK-FIA Karting Awards (09/01)

The
International Karting Commission of the FIA (CIK-FIA) started the year 2012 in
dignified fashion by rewarding its Champion Drivers of the 2011 season on
Saturday 7 January in Paris, at the Pavillon Gabriel, near the FIA headquarters
and just off the famous Champs Élysées and Place de la Concorde. Opened in the
presence of the FIA President, Jean Todt, the ceremony has honoured nearly 30
award-winners.
The President of the CIK-FIA, Shaikh Abdulla bin Isa Al
Khalifa, stated: "2011 was a great season which revealed very worthy Champions.
In some Championships, including the World KF1 Championship, the Drivers tipped
as favourites were the winners, but several others saw private and non-official
team Drivers create pleasant and sometimes resounding surprises. This glorious
uncertainty of sport makes the beauty of Karting. We have just turned the 2011
page and are already looking at the future. The 2012 season promises to be
exciting as it will introduce the new concept of engine lottery in the World KF1
Championship, thus set to balance the chances of all the protagonists, and as
there will be an even increased presence of chassis makes in the 'U18' World
Championship. Not forgetting that in 2012 the CIK is celebrating its 50th
anniversary."
Already rewarded last December in India on the occasion of
the FIA Gala when Sebastian Vettel (F1), Sébastien Loeb (Rallies) or Yvan Müller
(WTCC) were also honoured, the two Karting World Champion Drivers logically
received the biggest rounds of applause in Paris. Nyck de Vries' future promises
to be bright - and so does that of the World KF1 Championship runner-up,
Alexander Albon; they have both brilliantly completed their careers in Karting
and will switch over to Motorsport this year. 'U18' World Champion Matthew
Graham will have another helping in Karting and has announced that he was
planning to enter both World Championships in 2012, KF1 and 'U18'. Graham's
performance has also earned the Zanardi brand the official title of 2011 CIK-FIA
Karting World Champion for Makes.
Amongst the laureates, two Junior Drivers went home with
their arms full of trophies: Monaco's Charles Leclerc for landing both the
Academy Trophy and World Cup for KF3, and the Norwegian Dennis Olsen, winner of
the Viking Trophy and of the North KF3 European Trophy. The other 2011 World
Cups have rewarded the Italian Loris Spinelli (KF2), the Belgian Jonathan Thonon
(KZ1) and the Dutchman Joey Hanssen (KZ2). Two Japanese Drivers successively
found themselves in the limelight, Daiki Sasaki and Arata Saeki, both crowned
Asia-Pacific Champions, the former in KF1 and the latter in KF2. Thanks to young
Paolo De Conto (18 years old) and Emmanuel Vinuales (26), respectively European
Champions in categories usually more favourable to seasoned campaigners, KZ1 and
Superkart, the average age of the 2011 award-winners is neatly lower than in
previous years.
In addition to the trophies handed to the winners of the
other CIK-FIA Championships, a few extra special prizes have been awarded. Like
last year, Holland's Beitske Visser received the prize jointly offered by the
CIK and by the FIA "Women in Motorsport Commission", rewarding the most
deserving female Driver of the 2011 season. Only female Driver and KZ1's cadet,
she distinguished herself by leading the World Cup before being forced to
retire. No female had yet shown such potential in that top category of gearbox
karts which is reputed to be so demanding and has now become the reserve of
works teams and of Drivers who have turned into Karting professionals.
Some 185 guests attended the gala, and
they were also called upon to vote for the photograph of the year. The picture
taken by Philippe Kalmès, of the KSP agency, was selected.
A large selection of photographs of the "2011 CIK-FIA
Karting Awards" ceremony is available on
www.cikfia.com.

Protrain Racing (06/01)

Following
on from the recent announcement that Ed Brand, British Senior Rotax Champion,
will be racing for Protrain Racing Team in 2012 driving a Formula K Kart,
Protrain are delighted to announce their appointment as UK agents for Formula K
Karts thus reinforcing their position at the cutting edge of Kart racing.
Formula K is a marque with amazing
credentials and pedigree. Based at Maranello, Formula K was devised in 2009 as
the brainchild of four talented Motorsport professionals - Andrea Bertolini who,
as a driver; has a resume packed with FIA GT1 World Championship titles in his
Maserati MC12, is a tester for no other than Ferrari, with an important role of
talent scout on behalf of this Maranello based enterprise; Pietro Corradini who
in the 1970s & 1980s, was a Ferrari Racing Department mechanic working alongside
Villeneuve, Lauda and Scheckter; Roberto Ninzoli with 12 years spent in karting
where he won, among other things, an Italian title and Nunzio Annovi who has
proven to be capable of spotting talents and providing sponsorships to bring
them on with the hope of becoming a professional driver. He did so with Liuzzi
and Orsini and is now focused on Formula K.
These four motorsport professionals
head a team whose objective is to create competitive karts and to bring on young
talents by providing them with the best tools and knowledge to do well in
karting and, hopefully, one day in motorsports too. To ensure that Formula K
drivers become the professional drivers of tomorrow.
Since creation Formula K's record is
impressive holding the current Formula K Rotax International and European
Championships. At the recent SKUSA Supernationals in Las Vegas, with over 500
drivers, Formula K was dominant. Drivers Yannick De Brabander and Dave Blom
raced in the European categories and produced impressive times and results.
If you think that Formula K is just
another kart option, you would be very mistaken, Formula K is not just a kart
that races on a track - Formula K is a growth plan, it brings you into a family
of karting that is determined to create professional racing drivers of the
future. Drivers in the Formula K team benefit from a direct thread that ties
Formula K to the Ferrari world, in order to spot potential talents which can be
brought on, to give everyone a chance to dream. Formula K kart foresees an
ongoing communication between the two worlds (although independent) where both
use the same techniques to train and bring on drivers; hard training, planning,
data collection, track and simulator test drives and, naturally, high
professional standards. Drivers in the Protrain Racing team will benefit from
this thread and independent drivers will know that they are part of this larger
family who are constantly seeking success with an eye firmly fixed on your
future. If you win in a Formula K kart, you will be noticed!
Formula K is committed to success at
all levels and has a fantastic range of karts available now from Protrain Racing
who are currently organising test drives for many interested high profile
drivers.
To
arrange your test drive or to find out more about Formula K karts call Gary
Chapman now on 01280 814774 or 07802 966064 - it could be the best phone call

the top while in motion.
The total cost for these parts together amounts to £18.67

Elite
Driver Management, run by Fusion Motorsport's Dan Hazlewood, will be running 2
day intensive courses for kart drivers in all categories and levels of
experience in preparation for the 2012 season. The courses will take place at
Whilton Mill, Nr Daventry and the iZone Driver Performance centre at
Silverstone, Northamptonshire.

On the following day, drivers will be taken back to the
circuit to put their new techniques into practice and improve their lap times
during another semi-exclusive test day.
